Upcycle – An old Zara Linen Shirt (part 1)

Shirt description

I took an old Zara shirt which has lost its shape completely over the different wash and wear and tears.

The linen was not top quality and the parts which had needed structures (like the cuffs, collar) had not been interfaced, they consequently have fallen apart. The cuffs didn’t look like cuffs at all and didn’t stay up.

The picture  is after ironing it so imagine the lack of structure. And I made a bad coffee stain at the bottom left. A lot of things needed to be changed.

I started as usual, getting rid of the pieces which goes wrong. Here pockets and sleeves which was hanging because of their lack of structure.

It is obvious that the stain has to go too. I don’t like shirt with curve anyway.

After removing the pockets and the sleeves, I removed the front placket. The part which were vertical.

I have sewn the new center front.

  • Make sure it is vertical.
  • Make sure the top V is levelled

Now It is ready to use some fabric to cover the ugly parts.

  • Cut an interfacing shape
  • Iron it on a piece of fabric and cut it, leaving enough to fold around the interfacing
  • Sew the result where you want. Here on the center front
